The Hurley Family

On last Saturday’s sunny afternoon I had the privilege to get to know and photograph the beautiful Hurley family at their home.  This is one of my favorite kind of sessions to do, more of a lifestyle shoot where a family gets to relax in their own home and I just get to take my time and fire away.

I was ‘gifted’ to them by a past client to celebrate the arrival of their newest family member.  It was fun to meet a brand new family and also to be thought of as a ‘gift’ by another.  Pretty cool.

I was lucky to have an instant connection with them since Momma Hurley is from Wayzata, MN.  Anybody that knows me knows how much I adore Minnesotans.  So we got the “small world” talk out of the way and then I began to seek out some beautiful light to shoot their ridiculously beautiful family.

I’m sorry, but have you EVER seen cuter twins in your entire life?  I just couldn’t get over it!

I always thought wishing for multiples was a sure fire sign you were crazy, but after spending the afternoon with these two, I found myself thinking it would be so much fun!  They have this really cool connection that you don’t see as often in other siblings.

Then entered the undoubted star of the day, little baby M.

I am constantly forgetting how much fun it is to photograph babies, especially when they are as pretty as this one.

She was such an angel all day, and it was pretty fun to watch her interact with her big brother and sister.

I could go on posting photos of these guys all day, but I’ll just stick to a few of my favorites.  Thank you Hurley family for welcoming me into your home and being so easy to work with.

Welcome to the world baby M.  You are SO lucky to join your amazing family.

This was one of those weeks that flew by for me and Jon.  He’s been incredibly busy at work (late nights) combined with keeping up with friends and league hockey, I feel like I’ve hardly seen him.  I’ve been busy at home during the day editing away, blogging, and booking sessions (yay!).  I think we’re both looking forward to a low key weekend with some time together.  Hopefully we’ll make it back up to the mountains for some skiing and other than that we’ll just hang.  Hope everybody has a great few days!

If you don’t normally click on my links, try this one as a starting point.  These photos are AMAZING.  My favorites are #7, #9, and #13…OBVIOUSLY.

These numbers make me grateful I prefer black coffee and tea.

I’m guilty of a few of these grammar mistakes unfortunately.

I will NOT be making these because if I did I’d eat every last one.

A hilarious yet true take on a classic.  “…goodnight recycled baby wipes with no perfume.”

Have you ever been this angry?  Have you ever felt this much remorse?

A visual history of Richard Nixon getting lazier.

Obsessed with this quirky album.

My neon dress I wore for the Awards Banquet in Costa Rica, which I’ll be posting about next week!  I softened it down a bit with pretty earrings and nude heeled sandals.  Pair it up with a tan and it worked amazingly…so comfortable.

Sarah & Eric Get Married!

I was incredibly honored when my friends Sarah and Eric put their trust in me and asked if I would photograph their wedding in Beaver Creek.  They got married over President’s Day weekend and it was so beautiful, so intimate, and there was SO much love.

It was an emotional few days leading up to the wedding for me because I was in Minnesota with my family after my dad suffered a heart attack and then went through open heart surgery.  We all made it through (thanks be) and I flew back to Denver the night before the wedding.  I was very anxious thinking about the photos and the morning of I was incredibly nervous. I was so grateful that the day was filled with friends and people I love.  It was a great welcome home.

I met the girls that morning at the beautiful Beaver Creek Westin where they were getting buffed and shined…and oxygenated.

~ It is believed that Mirabelle stands on the site of the first home in the Valley of Beaver Creek, the log residence of George Townsend, who settled there in 1881-82.   It is now an exquisite restaurant (so good) and the owners have done a wonderful job of preserving the original charm and character of the home.  It was such a perfect choice for Sarah and Eric’s intimate day. ~

Matt and Katie

In honor of Valentines day I thought I’d post a recent engagement shoot I did up in Beaver Creek.  Matt and Katie are both good friends of mine and we all enjoyed a great weekend skiing in the mountains and taking photos.  I was in ‘extreme photographer’ mode with my camera pack strapped to my back, ready to pull out and shoot at any moment while skiing.  It was a total blast!

I hope everyone has a great rest of their Valentines Day (whether you like it or not) and thanks for browsing!

Worst Blogger Ever

Did I say ‘see you tomorrow’ like three days ago?  What I meant was see you in 10 days when we get back from our vacation to Costa Rica.

I suck at this.

Not the first and surely not the last.

Have I been avoiding my blogging comeback like the plague?

You bet your ass I have.

It just seemed way to daunting.  I kept making excuse after excuse.

I needed to clean my desk first.  Then I needed a new candle with an inspiring scent.  Soon after my lips were too chapped to possibly manage typing.  Then the internet kept happening over and over filled with it’s devious distractions.

And THEN I simply began to avoid my computer.  Too much time had passed.  Too much had happened.  I, Ali Hendrickson, had massively failed at blogging and was a certified loser.

Whenever I’m typing these apologetic/pathetic “it’s been way too long” blog posts I wonder how many more I will write in the future.

Well I’m back now.  I’ve got my tail between my legs and am hoping for yet another bout of forgiveness from my readers.  I can’t promise my comeback will be pretty, interesting, or very exciting…but if you read this blog you’ve come not to expect any of those descriptors anyway.

: )

See you tomorrow.

P.S. I’m working on a blog facelift so please extend your patience a bit further.
